Seasoned firewood needs to be properly dried to burn efficiently and safely. Wood that’s still green or damp produces more smoke, less heat, and can cause dangerous creosote buildup in your chimney. Purchasing in late spring or early summer gives you time to stack and store the wood so it’s fully seasoned by fall.
