Wayne falls within Radnor Township, which enforces one of the more protective tree ordinances in Delaware County. The Township’s Shade Tree Commission oversees street tree work, and permits are required for arborists performing any pruning or removal on shade or street trees. Property owners may remove up to five trees per calendar year without a clearing permit, as long as no individual tree exceeds 30 inches in diameter at breast height. Trees at or above that threshold are classified as heritage trees and require a clearing permit and formal review by the Shade Tree Commission before removal. Replacement plantings are required following any permitted removal.
